A friend of mine told me about this book on Amazon, and being a loverchildren's fairy stories, I ordered it immediately. From the first few
pages, I knew it was not your ordinary fairy book. Oh, it's got the
winged magical creatures all right, which go about having lovely
adventures, but Merelda is different. She models how to live in the
world with integrity and wholeness. She can "see" the energy
connecting all things with her special goggles (what a neat idea!) and
wakes each morning accepting with thankfulness the blessings of
life. Then she spreads that to everyone around her. I so wish I had
this book to read to my children when they were little! Such
wonderful life lessons told in a style that is accessible but not
childish. I loved that about the book - it is as engaging for adults
as it is for children. I had tears in my eyes by the end, it resonated
so deeply.
One thing I really like about Merelda is that she always asks
permission before doing something. It is so respectful. And it is not
that she can only do good things - she chooses to do the good, the
right, the respectful action. She listens to her intuition, and that
leads her in the right direction. This book is full of great lessons
for any age.

This fantastical book is so engaging and fun, and yet has a useful message that adults and kids can benefit from.
A joyous ride for all ages. The story is clever, fun, funny, and a quick read. I don't believe I've ever read a story like this and I will probably read it again.
The story line was thought provoking and had me doing some internal questioning. The character illustrations pieced it all together with creative visuals.
A wonderful book for children. I bought it for a little girl age 10 and she loved it.
This is a fantastic ride into the fairylands with the kind and feisty Merelda. We follow her as she goes about her various mending tasks helping creatures and the people that are part of her woods and world. The story reads along at first like a delightful babbling brook, with short tales at the beginning of the book that are great for bedtime reading with kids. The first chapters are a little like stand-alone adventures. Then Merelda is called to a particularly difficult mending and the mystery at the heart of the old Walnut tree and the broken heart of a neighbor. Magic adventures multiply and the tale turns into a short novel examining the human spirit and just how a fairy might help with mending that, too. There are many illustrations, nearly every other page, that really bring the people, animals and mysterious creatures to life!
A delightful tale with beautiful illustrations of a fairy and her quest to watch over the plants and animals in her garden. Characters come alive in this magical world! But more than that, the story of Merelda Manypockets reminds both children and adults about the power of imagination, the importance of reaching one's potential, and the beauty that exists in all creatures.
The book is written so that it can be easily read in small amounts (such as bedtime stories) or in larger chapters. Overall, "The Mendings of Merelda Manypockets" flows well, builds up to a bigger mystery and problem solved, and will captivate young readers.
